For many businesses, keeping up with customer inquiries across WhatsApp, Instagram and other platforms can be a challenge, especially during busy periods. In Episode 5 of the AI4SD Podcast, we speak with Ronald Tagoe, Founder and CEO of mNotify and Chatbots Africa, about how he is using AI to help businesses respond to customers faster, manage orders and avoid losing sales because of unanswered messages.

Ronald takes us back to how mNotify evolved from a student notification service into a broader platform for business messaging and customer engagement. In 2020, he launched Chatbots Africa to help businesses manage customer interactions across WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and the web.

Beyond business automation, Ronald has also led the development of the Ghana Entrepreneurship Policy Chatbot, designed to help entrepreneurs navigate government policies and access relevant information. He sees further opportunities to develop AI solutions tailored to Ghana’s local languages and business needs, while highlighting the importance of making local data more accessible to innovators.

In this episode we discuss:

  • How Chatbots Africa helps businesses manage customer inquiries, orders and feedback across digital channels
  • How AI-powered chatbots can help businesses avoid missed orders and improve customer engagement
  • How the Ghana Entrepreneurship Policy Chatbot helps entrepreneurs navigate government policies
  • Why Ghana needs better-organised, accessible datasets to support AI innovation across different sectors
  • How voicebots and local-language AI could make digital services more accessible
  • Why Ronald believes Ghana should focus on building useful AI solutions rather than simply creating another large language model
  • The challenges of AI adoption, from digital readiness and infrastructure to customer trust
  • Why collaboration and resources such as the Ghana AI Practitioners’ Guide can help local innovators build on existing work
