Ghana’s Securities and Exchange Commission has admitted nine additional companies into its Virtual Asset Regulatory Sandbox, expanding the number of participants under its supervision to 20.

The Commission announced the expanded list in a public notice dated August 19, 2026. The notice provides the full list of Virtual Asset Service Providers participating in the sandbox, following the admission of the initial cohort in March.

The expansion brings more financial institutions and digital asset businesses into Ghana’s emerging regulatory framework for virtual assets. The new participants cover virtual asset brokerage, exchanges, trading platforms and tokenisation of financial and real-world assets.

The new cohort broadens the scope of activity being tested within the sandbox. While several participants focus on cryptocurrency trading and brokerage, others are testing the use of blockchain-based infrastructure for traditional financial and commodity assets.

GFX Brokers, for example, will pilot the tokenisation of Treasury bills, while One Africa Securities will focus on bonds. Wewire Ghana will test trade finance tokenisation, and the Ghana Commodities Exchange will operate within the virtual asset exchange category for commodities.

The inclusion of established capital market and commodity market institutions alongside digital asset firms points to a broader application of tokenisation within Ghana’s financial markets

The SEC said participation in the sandbox will allow the Commission to collect regulatory data needed to validate and finalise activity-specific licensing and registration requirements.
