Deep Dive: The Non-Tech Fallacy & Africa’s “Missing Middle”
The dominant venture capital playbook often fails because it over-indexes on globally connected founders and pure software plays. But what happens to the massive chunk of the African economy built on brick-and-mortar operations?
In our latest exclusive interview, Peter Wamburu (an investor at VestedWorld) breaks down why nearly 70% of the market is trapped in a funding blind spot—too small for traditional private equity, lacking the hard collateral for commercial bank loans, and dismissed by VCs for lacking a software-first trajectory. Wamburu challenges the ecosystem to rethink “venture-scale returns,” pointing to a traditional supply chain investment that tripled in size in just three years without a single line of proprietary code.
For founders raising capital in this macroeconomic climate, he also highlights the three non-negotiable quantitative metrics—from capital efficiency to cash conversion cycles—that act as absolute deal-breakers during due diligence.

Funding
ABAN doubles down on Legendary Foods
The Africa Business Angels Network (ABAN) has made a follow-on investment in Ghana’s Legendary Foods. The agtech startup, known for pioneering sustainable insect-based protein production in West Africa, will leverage the capital to scale its operations and advance regional food security.
Faith-driven impact investor Talanton backs Ethical Apparel Africa
Talanton, the evergreen debt fund has invested in Ethical Apparel Africa, which works with manufacturing partners in West Africa to produce apparel under fair labour and quality standards. The funding supports efforts to grow socially compliant, export-ready manufacturing capacity in Ghana and the wider region.
