Africa Ecosystem Catalysts Facility

Two Ghanaian startups, VDL Fulfilment and Rivia Clinics, have secured new funding from Village Capital through the Africa Ecosystem Catalysts Facility, a fund supporting early-stage businesses in African markets.

The combined investment totals $350,000, with Rivia Clinics receiving $200,000 and VDL Fulfilment securing $150,000 through a mix of convertible note and milestone-linked debt.

The investments are among the facility’s first transactions in Ghana as it expands activity across selected African markets including Nigeria and Tanzania.

Healthcare delivery through subscription access

Rivia Clinics is building a primary healthcare model centred on membership access. The startup connects individuals and employers to a network of clinics while combining physical consultations with virtual care services.

Founded in 2024, the company says it has served more than 50,000 patients across its network. The latest funding will be directed toward expanding clinic operations, strengthening its digital health infrastructure, and scaling customer acquisition.

The company operates within a healthcare environment where access, affordability, and continuity of care remain persistent challenges for many households and businesses. Subscription-based health models are increasingly being tested by startups seeking to spread healthcare costs over recurring payments while integrating telemedicine into routine care delivery.

Expanding fulfilment infrastructure for SMEs

VDL Fulfilment operates in the logistics and e-commerce support segment, providing warehousing, inventory management, and delivery services for businesses selling online.

The startup reports that it has fulfilled more than 170,000 orders and processed over $3.8 million in merchandise value since launch. Its client base includes more than 150 active vendors.

The new capital will support warehouse expansion, fleet growth, and the development of additional fulfilment hubs intended to shorten delivery timelines and improve order distribution efficiency.

VDL Fulfilment previously participated in the Orange Corners Ghana programme and received backing from the Orange Corners Innovation Fund, initiatives that support entrepreneurship development in Ghana.

A locally driven investment model

The $4 million Africa Ecosystem Catalysts Facility pilot fund is backed by FMO – Dutch Entrepreneurial Development Bank and Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). Unlike traditional venture sourcing models that rely heavily on established startup hubs, the facility works with local Entrepreneur Support Organisations to identify and assess companies within their markets.

In Ghana, Reach for Change Ghana and our sister organization, The Innovation Spark were involved in sourcing and supporting startups for the programme.
